Vilnius Hosts the Largest Road Infrastructure Forum in the Baltic Region: “Road to the Future 2025” – Lithuania Becomes the Epicenter of Road Innovation in the Baltics

2025 09 03

On Wednesday, the International Baltic Road Conference and Exhibition “Road to the Future 2025” kicks off at the Litexpo Exhibition and Congress Centre in Vilnius. The event has brought together more than 500 road sector experts, policymakers, and innovators from over 25 countries. Organized every four years by the Baltic Road Association (BRA) and hosted this year by Via Lietuva, the conference will feature more than 100 presentations and, for the first time, present the prestigious Baltic Road Awards 2025.

This 31st edition of the largest road infrastructure forum in the Baltic region returns to Lithuania after a twelve-year break.

“During the forum, we will discuss and listen to presentations on the role of business in today’s and tomorrow’s context, on roads as enablers of future mobility, and on how public and private capital can work together to meet the sector’s development needs. Against the backdrop of today’s global security challenges, we will also address key issues such as military mobility, the resilience of transport infrastructure against hybrid and military threats, and transport corridors that must ensure faster, better, and more efficient movement of goods, people, and military cargo,” said Acting Minister of Transport and Communications, Eugenijus Sabutis.

According to Via Lietuva CEO Martynas Gedaminskas, an event of this scale is not just a professional gathering but also a strategic opportunity for Lithuania to strengthen its regional leadership.

“This conference is the largest road infrastructure event in the Baltic region and a unique platform for shaping the future of the transport sector. For Lithuania, it is a special opportunity to demonstrate leadership, build partnerships, and jointly shape the future of safer, more sustainable, and more innovative roads for the entire region,” said Gedaminskas.

From Future Challenges to Green Innovation Opportunities

The conference will place special emphasis on future challenges and opportunities for the road sector. Discussions and presentations will explore topics such as the application of artificial intelligence and digitalization in road infrastructure, the challenges of decarbonization, and the potential of green innovations. In addition, the vision of smart cities and future mobility solutions will be presented.

Other strategic directions shaping regional road policy will also be addressed. Deputy Minister of Transport Roderikas Žiobakas will present the State Road Fund, set to launch in 2026, while the heads of the road administrations of all three Baltic States and Poland will discuss the development of the Via Baltica project. Representative of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Karolis Zikaras will review the historical importance of road infrastructure in the context of military conflicts, and a joint panel of experts will discuss the expansion of the alternative fuel network in the Baltic region.

Internationally recognized experts will deliver keynote speeches: Dutch futurist and AI expert Christian Kromme, Swedish urbanist and smart city visionary Alexander Ståhle, former Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum José Viegas of Portugal, Swedish economist and futurist Kjell A. Nordström, and Deputy Secretary General of PIARC Robin Sébille of France.

Lithuania’s progress will be presented by Via Lietuva CEO Martynas Gedaminskas, ICDS defense expert Tomas Jermalavičius, Rail Baltica COO Marius Narmontas, and representatives of the Ministries of Transport, Interior, Education and Sports, and Health, the Lithuanian Armed Forces, airports, and seaports. The latest European perspectives will be shared by Dr. Michael Güntner, CEO of Autobahn GmbH of Germany.

High-Level Leaders to Discuss Key Topics

The conference will also feature panel discussions with experts in transport, urban planning, innovation, and economics from across the Baltic States and Europe. The panels will address strategic transport projects, visions for the cities of the future, sustainable mobility solutions, the development of intermodality, alternative fuel infrastructure, and the economic outlook for the road sector.

Among the participants will be top-level leaders, policymakers, and international experts sharing insights on future mobility challenges and opportunities, the importance of cooperation, and the strategic direction of the Baltic region’s transport sector. These discussions will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends and solutions shaping the region’s transport future.

This quadrennial event is organized by the Baltic Road Association (BRA) and its current chair, Via Lietuva. More information is available on the official website: www.ibrc2025.com.
