Martynas Gedaminskas Appointed as CEO of Via Lietuva

The Board of Via Lietuva – the state company responsible for the development and maintenance of Lithuania’s national road infrastructure – has appointed Martynas Gedaminskas as Chief Executive Officer for a five-year term, following an open public competition. Since February, he has been serving as Acting CEO. 

“Lithuania’s road infrastructure development and sustainable financing strategy, which is of national significance, requires leadership capable of generating long-term benefit for the state, ensuring the efficient use of public funds, and strengthening the sector’s credibility. The competition attracted significant interest, with 30 candidates applying. After reviewing the recommendations of the external executive search company, the Board thoroughly evaluated the five strongest candidates and chose Martynas Gedaminskas to lead Via Lietuva,” said Board Chair Rūta Butautaitė Pivoriūnienė.

Currently, Via Lietuva is working on several major, large-scale strategic transport infrastructure projects. The company is also carrying out significant operational transformations aimed at advanced, safe, and sustainable road infrastructure development – building a system that meets the mobility needs of modern Lithuania and aligns with the objectives of the European Green Deal. 

“I see the Board’s decision to entrust me with leading Via Lietuva as a great responsibility. Together with our shareholder, we are implementing important changes – from efficient project management to the introduction of a new sustainable road financing model. Among our key goals are the establishment of a Road Fund, utilization of infrastructure assets, revenue from provided services, and the clear allocation of funds to road infrastructure development and modernization. Implementing this model would mark a huge quality leap for Lithuania in project planning, financing, and execution,” said the new CEO, Martynas Gedaminskas.

Martynas Gedaminskas joined Via Lietuva in 2023, contributing to the company’s transformation and initiating strategic changes. Previously, he served as Head of the Strategic Infrastructure Department at Litgrid, Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator, and before that led technical development at Lithuanian Railways. 

Martynas experience includes planning and implementing complex, nationally significant infrastructure projects, actively participating in the modernization of the energy and transport sectors, working in a cross-sectoral environment, uniting diverse stakeholders, introducing advanced management solutions, and focusing on creating long-term benefit for the state. 

“Martynas Gedaminskas experience in implementing nationally significant infrastructure projects and participating in state-owned enterprise transformations demonstrates that he understands both the responsibilities of the public sector and the principles of modern, efficient management. The new CEO faces ambitious goals: to successfully implement strategy of Via Lietuva – from implementing a sustainable financing model to developing a modern, safe, and innovative road infrastructure,” emphasized Board Chair Rūta Butautaitė Pivoriūnienė. 

The CEO selection process was carried out through a public competition. The Board was assisted in the process by the international executive search and recruitment company J. Friisberg & Partners.
